The Lead Developer was designed with the needs and pain points of technical team leads in mind. We programme each conference around our three key themes of Team, Tech & Tools. The talks are designed to help very practically with common problems in these areas.
In our four years we’ve covered everything from leadership to recruitment, team dynamics to imposter syndrome. Our technical talks are designed to keep tech leads current - anything from new languages, frameworks and technologies to case studies dealing with common issues such a rapid scaling. We look at tools and processes and ways of working. Finally, we’re thinking about the personal development of a team lead and how to continue to grow the key skills needed by an effective and inspirational Lead Dev.
What we love about running The Lead Developer is the feeling of community. In our audience, we find a total diversity of background, technologies and industries, but a common set of issues.

Absolutely, we take our Code of Conduct very seriously. You can read in full here. In short: all conference participants are expected to be respectful towards other attendees, speakers, organisers and staff, in person and online. If you feel uncomfortable with the behaviour of anyone at the conference, please let someone in a yellow staff t-shirt know. We will take your concerns seriously and take appropriate action. We reserve the right to ask people to leave if they act against the spirit of this code. We're working hard on finding the best possible venue for our first San Francisco conference. We will update the Location page once we have confirmed the details.
Registration will open at 8.30am and the conference sessions finish around 5:30pm. We usually host full-day workshops and a pre-conference meetup the day before, and a networking mixer at the end of Day 1. We will confirm and announce more details closer to the conference.
Don't worry if you are running late. Our staff will stay at the registration desk for most of the morning. We’ll let you slip into the auditorium quietly once we've given you your name badge.
Yes! A hot lunch is provided, plus tea, coffee and snacks throughout the day.
Yes! There will be a vegetarian option available during lunch. If you have other requirements (e.g. allergies) and you didn't let us know when you registered for your ticket, please email [email protected]. During the conference, if you have requested a special meal other than vegetarian, please speak to a member of staff who will be able to help you.
Yes! The venue is fully wheelchair accessible and we’ll be providing real-time audio captioning for all talks. Please do let us know about any access requirements that you have, if you haven’t already, by emailing [email protected]. It’s no trouble at all – we just need some advance notice to make sure you’re catered for.
You won’t need to bring anything to get your badge on the day. Just give your name to our lovely registration staff and they’ll provide you with your conference pass.
Absolutely, you can find details on your badge.
Yes! We’re recording all the talks and we’ll send you the links to the videos a couple of weeks after the conference, once they’ve been edited. We’ll also gather slides and add links to them on the talks page. Our photographer will be capturing moments throughout the conference. We’ll put these photos on Flickr and send you the link! If you don't want to be included in published photographs, please pick up a yellow lanyard at registration.
The conference is due to finish at 5:30pm on Day 1 followed by a drinks reception until around 7:30pm. The conference will finish around 5pm on Day 2. The full schedule with exact timings will be confirmed and published approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the conference, please check the schedule then for up-to-date timings.
We're running full day workshops the day before the conference, more details will be announced in 2020.

At the conference, you'll notice there’s a barcode on your delegate badge. Our sponsors may request your permission to scan your badge so they can get in touch with you after the conference to discuss their products and services. If you agree, the sponsor will receive the following information (if provided when registering your conference ticket): your name, email address, Twitter username, job role, company, company sector, and company size. By allowing our sponsor to scan your badge, you are giving them permission to request this information from us. Please note, we will not give your details to a sponsor unless you approve the request. You are able to unsubscribe from any communications you receive.
